Tips For Keeping Your Lips Healthy and Youthful

Like the rest of our body, our lips age too. The main reasons for our lips losing their natural shape, size, and suppleness are due to the reduction in collagen that we produce. Ageing is something that happens to everyone, and while we cannot avoid this, there are tips you can implement to protect your pout from early ageing:

Avoid straws

The repetitive pursing of your lips when drinking from a straw can encourage collagen breakdown and loss of elasticity over time. Plastic straws are not just trouble for your lips but the environment too. If you wish to avoid ‘smokers lines’ around the lips, ditch the straws!

Avoid smoking

Smoking impacts our bodies in various ways, and the lips are no exception. Did you know there are over 4,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke, and many of them trigger a rapid decrease in collagen and elastin? Nicotine causes blood vessels to contract and narrow, reducing blood flow and depriving the skin of oxygen and the nutrients it needs to remain healthy and soft.

Stay hydrated

If dehydration can cause organs to shut down, imagine what this can do for your skin! When you're dehydrated, your lips are more prone to dryness. Aim for at least eight glasses of water per day to keep hydration levels up.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is brilliant for the lips as the process removes the outer layer of dry skin, uneven texture whilst promoting cell turnover. Our lips are only 3-5 layers thick, meaning this area dries out even quicker than the rest of our body, with this in mind, we have created the Lip Buffer Tool. The soft bristles allow for a gentle daily micro exfoliation that makes lips appear softer and more hydrated, it also increases circulation in the lips, making them look fuller.

Stimulate Collagen Production

Did you know massaging your lips can stimulate collagen productions? Use our Rose Quartz Spatula & Sculpting Tool to stimulate the lymphatic and circulatory systems, this can help increase collagen production. We collaborated with a facial therapist to create our signature gua sha technique for lips, watch the video here.

Use lip products with nourishing ingredients.

Ingredients such as parabens, petrolatum, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and alcohol are ingredients you want to avoid in your lip care products. Instead, choose products abundant in beneficial and nourishing ingredients such as natural oils, butters, vitamins, peptides and hyaluronic acid.

We are proud to say that we have carefully formulated our products with so many of these naturally nourishing ingredients in mind. Take a closer look at our ingredients here;  Exfoliating Lip Scrub, Hydrating Lip Mask and Moisturising Lip Balm
