What are the Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid for the Lips?
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid (pronounced ‘hiya-loo-ron-nick’) is a natural component of the skin; however, the type you find in skincare products is a synthetic version. As we age, hyaluronic acid is one of the molecules which declines, increasing wrinkles, fine lines and dehydration. Using skincare products with hyaluronic acid can be brilliant for many reasons. Here is why you should consider implementing it into your skincare routine:
What are the benefits of hyaluronic acid on the skin?
- Anti-ageing
- Hydrating for the skin and lips
- Promotes supple and healthier skin
- Natural plumping effect
- HA is referred to as the ‘key molecule’ in skin moisture.
How does hyaluronic acid work?
HA is a powerful humectant due to its capacity to retain a thousand times its weight in water. It acts as a sponge by drawing moisture from the atmosphere to boost hydration in the skin.
Why is hyaluronic acid suitable for the lips?
Our lips are the thinnest part of our body, being only 3-5 cellular layers thick, whereas the rest of our body has 16 cellular layers. As we age, the collagen that makes our lips plump naturally decreases, leading to thinning. Using lip products with hyaluronic acid works in the same way as the skin; it binds to water to pull in hydration to the skin on the lips, leaving them feeling replenished and plump.
What about Sodium Hyaluronate (SH)? Is it the same thing?
You may have seen Sodium Hyaluronate listed as an ingredient in our Hydrating Lip Mask. SH is a salt derived from HA. It has all the benefits of HA - but it’s more easily absorbed.
Find Sodium Hyaluronate in our Hydrating Lip Mask. For best results, use after our Exfoliating Lip Scrub to remove dead skin and before applying our Moisturising Lip Balm to lock in hydration and increase moisture.
