What Is The Difference Between a Lip Mask and a Lip Balm?

The lips are undoubtedly the most delicate part of our faces. From eating to speaking, our lips go through a lot regularly, which is why it is essential to give them the love and self-care they deserve.

There is often some confusion on the differences between a Lip Mask and a Lip Balm. Here Team Apoth break down the differences and the benefits between the two:

Lip Mask: Lip Masks replenish the lips with hydration and are great as a treatment for the lips. These tend to be applied to the lips weekly.

Lip Balm: Lip Balms contain waxes to prevent moisture from evaporating from the top layer of the lips, thus decreasing the likelihood of even drier lips. These tend to be applied regularly to the lips daily.

What benefits do both products have?

Our lips lack sweat glands and naturally have fewer layers than the rest of our face, which makes our lips easily chapped, dry, and even peel. For these reasons, a good quality Mask and Balm can help nourish your lips.

Lip Masks = Hydrate the lips

Lip Balms = Moisturise the lips

Our Hydrating Lip Mask includes Hyaluronic Acid, an ingredient that acts as a sponge by drawing moisture from the atmosphere to boost hydration in the skin.

How do I know when to use which?

Lip Mask: Use your lip mask as a weekly treatment when your lips are feeling super dry and need extra TLC. Team Apoth recommends using it as part of a self-care routine, before a night out or as a weekly add-on to your skincare routine.

Lip Balm: Use your lip balm daily, as often as needed when your lips are feeling chapped.

What ingredients should I look for in these products?

Look for products with soothing and moisturising ingredients. Try to look for lip care with natural ingredients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories to soothe and rehydrated damaged lips.

Some of our favourite ingredients are Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Coconut Oil & Hyaluronic Acid (read more about the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid here).

Apoth and Co products contain all-natural ingredients, not to mention they are also eco-conscious and cruelty-free, meaning not only are they good for your lips, but good for the planet too.
